UPDATE: Epic has an official launch trailer, complete with gauntlet slam.

Starting today, players of the popular one vs all battle royale game Fortnite can take control of the Marvel Universe’s most powerful glove as Thanos.

The mad Titan will be playable starting Tuesday, May 8 in the free ‘Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup’ mode, which will work the same as Fortnite’s standard battle royale mode, except that the all-powerful Infinity Gauntlet will spawn somewhere on the map. Be the first to find it and you’ll be granted the visage of Thanos and his powers—though exactly what those powers will be remains to be seen.

For those without teenagers, Fortnite is arguably the most popular of the emerging battle royale genre games. Players jump into an online match against dozens of other players to be the last one standing. It’s free to play on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

So how did this seemingly random mashup happen?

Fans of both franchises have other than the directors of the Infinity War movie directors Joe and Anthony Russo. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, “Over the past few months, while we were editing Infinity War, we’d take breaks to hop on and get in a few games,” Infinity War director Joe Russo said of himself and co-director Anthony Russo. “And then we started thinking, how cool would it be to have some kind of Avengers-Fortnite mashup?”

From there Russo contacted the Fortnite’s developer Epic Games and the teams came to this special event conclusion which all parties feel speaks honestly of both brands. Fans should jump on this limited event sooner than later as most special engagements in Fortnite are only available a few weeks at most.

Fortnite is available for free download on STEAM, PlayStation Store, and Xbox Live
