200905141139While we’re still on semi-vacation, we will be attending the Maine Comics Arts Festival in Portland, ME this Sunday. New England’s comics heritage includes the birth of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and now the Center for Cartoon Studies, so it’s nice to see a local indie show to reflect some of that. The one day festival is being organized by Rick Lowell of Casablanca Comics, Portland’s comics central. Guests include Becky Cloonan, Chris Giarrusso, Gabrielle Bell and Kean Soo ; we’ll be interviewing them in a panel at the end of the day on Sunday. You can see the rest of the list here.

The rest of the schedule can be seen here. Other events include a graphic novel workship for educators and librarians led by Peter Gutierrez, a presentation by CCS and a Sunday night party at the North Star Music Cafe.

Please come on out and say hi if you’re around!

  1. It’s so cool that something like this is happening in my former backyard (well, I grew up in Bangor, not Portland, but still), and I really wish I could go! Maybe next year.

  2. Wow… Stumptown, KCC, FCBD/Pen, TCAF, MECAF/Motor City, Julie Schwartz lecture by J. Michael Straczynski, BookExpo, MoCCA, [?], WW Philly/Heroes Con… one after the other!

    Life is sweet.
