For our next installment of Statix Press Week, where we highlight upcoming titles from Titan’s new European comics imprint, we’re bringing you something really special. You may have heard of Fabien Nury and Thierry Robin‘s rather excellent The Death Of Stalin graphic novel. We’ve talked about it here on The Beat, and it’s the inspiration for Armando Iannucci‘s forthcoming The Death Of Stalin film, which features an all-star cast that includes Steve Buscemi, Jeffrey Tambor, and Michael Palin among others. The plot takes us behind the scenes of Stalin’s final, fatal illness to experience how the various cogs in Soviet Russia’s political machine attempted to fill the power vacuum the dictator’s death created.

This same team has reunited to produce a graphic novel entitled Death To The Tsar, which visits an earlier period in Russian history. Specifically, it covers the unrest surrounding the end of Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich’s career as Governor of Moscow.

Statix Press Brand Manager Chris Thompson calls Death To The Tsar “a unique look at both sides of the conflict between the Tsar and his Governors and the people who wanted to kill them in the early 20th century.” He goes on to say:

Nury’s script finds a way to make you understand both sides, while his sharp wit brings levity to some otherwise disturbing scenes. This is the perfect complement to The Death of Stalin – providing deeper insight into another key era of modern Russian history.”

We’ve got six never-before-seen pages from Death To The Tsar below, and the first two pages are exclusive to The Beat, you won’t find them anywhere else. Death To The Tsar hits stores on February 20, 2018.
