It’s been a while since Star Wars has tried to release a post-Return of the Jedi story in comics, especially since the original loss of the Expanded Universe, now called Star Wars Legends, was declared non-cannon in 2014. That changes with three highly anticipated limited series that will bridge the old and new trilogies. Written by Alex Segura, with art by Leonard Kirk, Stefano Raffaele, and Jethro Morales, this new post-Return of the Jedi era begins in October with STAR WARS: THE BATTLE OF JAKKU — INSURGENCY RISING and STAR WARS: THE BATTLE OF JAKKU — REPUBLIC UNDER SIEGE.
As detailed last month, the Battle Of Jakku was the final confrontation of the Galactic Civil War, which was the conflict of the era that the original Star Wars takes place in. The comic will depict the final fall of the Empire, as Jakku’s ruins were originally seen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens where Rey was scavenging its wreckage. Leading the story full circle.
Probably the biggest reveals are details on how it connects with Doctor Aphra along with upcoming stories of Luke’s earliest days beginning his own Jedi Order – a tale which fans have been dying to read more about.
