Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have released the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth MCU film starring Tom Holland as the wall crawler.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi, Wonder Man), the film picks up four years after No Way Home, with Peter Parker no longer in touch with MJ (Zendaya) or Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon) after everyone’s memory of him was erased in the 2021 film. MJ is now being pursued by Eman Esfandi (Ahsoka)’s unnamed character, while Peter mulls and plots how to disclose his big secret(s) to his ex-girlfriend and best friend again.

However, life continues to get even more complicated for Parker, who in a twist reminiscent of the 2005 comics storyline “The Other,” undergoes a metamorphosis that grants him organic web shooters, forcing him to turn to Mark Ruffalo‘s Bruce Banner (back to his human self again) for help. Could Spider-Man be mutating into the monstrous Man-Spider? The shot of his eyes turning red towards the end of the trailer certainly suggests something more sinister is going on, although that could also be the work of the heavily rumored Mr. Negative.

There’s no appearance from the aforementioned supervillain, despite the presence of mind control, although plenty of other villains are shown, including Scorpion (Michael Mando), Boomerang, Tarantula, and Daredevil’s old ninja enemies the Hand. Spidey is shown to not be on the best terms with Jon Bernthal‘s Frank Castle/Punisher either, with the extended scene of his appearance offering a succinct and funny reason for why he would contain his TV-MA mouth around the PG-13 hero.

There’s no sign of Sadie Sink‘s mysterious role, although Keith David‘s apparent presence is revealed via a voiceover discussing the life cycle of spiders. The actor previously portrayed Tombstone on The Spectacular Spider-Man, a role Into the Spider-Verse‘s Marvin “Krondon” Jones III was reported to be reprising in the movie, so who knows who the veteran actor might be playing instead. This’ll actually mark David’s second MCU role, as he was cast as an antagonist (who would’ve become M.O.D.O.K.) on the unproduced series New Warriors in 2017.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released in theaters on July 31. It will mark the final MCU movie before Avengers: Doomsday (out December 18) and Secret Wars (December 17, 2027), although Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will wrap up that trilogy on June 18, 2027. Daredevil: Born Again season two will premiere in the meantime on Disney+ on Tuesday, March 24, and be followed later this year by VisionQuest, and a Punisher special.
