Sonic the Hedgehog has gotta go fast – and he’s doing just that! Just not as fast as, say Disney, Blumhouse and the like. Yep, Sonic is jumping to digital on Friday, March 31 and on Blu-Ray and 4K Ultra HD on May 19, extending the list of movies coming to small screen in efforts to promote self-isolation and social distancing.
The movie garnered attention early on with its horrifying, no good, very bad initial designs of the speedy hedgehog. Ironically, those changes delayed his theatrical debut by three months (from November 2019 to February 2020), but now, freed from his bonds, Sonic is free to haunt you and your family on digital. The movie stars Ben Schwartz as Sonic, James Marsden as Tom, Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, Tika Sumpter as Maddie and is directed by Jeff Fowler.
Speaking of Fowler, he went to Twitter following the announcement to say that he hopes the early release of Sonic will help ease some of our extended time indoors. Schwartz jumped in too, giving the proper sound off of an all caps “GOTTA GO FAST!”
Too bad he wasn’t faster than covid-19.
Sonic the Hedgehog will be available for $19.99 and is currently available for preorder from a few vendors including Apple if that suits your needs.
