It’s already the weekend (again), and that means it’s time for Weekend Reading 83Δ!

Here at Stately Beat Manor, we already have our books set aside… Who wants to be caught without reading material while you’re handing out fun-sized candy bars, after all? As ever, we hope you’ll share your reading plans with us, either here in the comment section or over on social media @comicsbeat.

Weekend Reading 83Δ
Weekend Reading 83Δ: The Autumnal (a cover worthy of a bestseller list) and The Low, Low Woods

AVERY KAPLAN: This weekend, I’m going full horror! First up is The Autumnal by Daniel Kraus, Chris Shehan, Jason Wordie, and Jim Campbell. Then, it’s on to a re-read of one of my favorite titles from the first round of Hill House Comics: The Low, Low Woods by Carmen Maria Machado, DaniTamra Bonvillain, and Steve Wands, with covers by Sam Wolfe Connelly

Weekend Reading 83Δ: Pumpkinheads

JOHANNA DRAPER CARLSON: For those who like the season without the scary, Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell, Faith Erin Hicks, and Sarah Stern brings all kinds of favorite things:  a pumpkin patch, a ton of seasonal treats (Caramel apples! Kettle corn! Frito pie!), kind of a scavenger hunt, friendship, reminiscing, pining, near-death experiences, and a quest for romance. About the only thing it doesn’t have are costumes. But for monsters, I’ll be reading A Study in Emerald by Neil Gaiman, Rafael Alburquerque, Rafael Scavone, Dave Stewart, and Todd Klein. It combines Lovecraftian tentacle monsters with characters from Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories, and it tickles me, because the original short story was fanfiction (as Gaiman himself says) and yet won a Hugo.

Weekend Reading 83Δ: Criminal Macabre Omnibus

DEAN SIMONS: While Halloween isn’t really much of anything for me – or for the UK in general – I did start reading the Dark Horse Criminal Macabre Omnibus, I suppose that will count. Otherwise, since last weekend, I have been getting back into Tite Kubo’s Bleach. Many years ago I started reading and wandered off circa volume 16. Restarting from volume 7, I have been wizzing through (I am at volume 12 at time of writing).

Weekend Reading 83Δ: Final Crisis: Legion of 3 Worlds

TAIMUR DAR: No spoilers, but the current season of Young Justice: Phantoms has me interested in taking a dive into the Legion of Super-Heroes. If the big shock ending of the latest episode is leading to what I think it is, it’s very possible that it may be taking some cues from the Final Crisis: Legion of 3 Worlds miniseries by writer Geoff Johns and artist George Pérez. So I’m gonna read that 5-issue limited series before next week’s episode debuts.
