The weekend has arrived, and that means, by extension, so has Weekend Reading 75Δ!

As has become our long-standing custom (75 weeks, but it seems like more), we’re going to spending Saturday and Sunday reading! Please let us know what you’re reading this weekend, either here in the comment section or over on social media @comicsbeat.

Weekend Reading 75Δ: Maison Ikkoku Vol. 3

AVERY KAPLAN: Look, Maison Ikkoku by Rumiko Takahashi, with a translation by Matt Treyvaud and touch-up art & lettering by Inori Fukuda Trantis just too good! After devouring volume two a couple of weeks ago, I am heading into volume three. The nuances of the character’s personalities are beginning to become more clear and, as the romance elements get more complicated, they just become even more interesting. And I can say with certainty that I will be revising these lovely Viz Signature editions for decades to come!

Weekend Reading 75Δ: Djinn

DEAN SIMONS: I am down to the last 200 pages of Marlon James’ near 700-page A Brief History of Seven Killings so I hope to make more progress towards the home stretch. It is a solid read but when it comes to prose, I am a slow reader and life has been too busy. In the comics department I started reading the BD series Djinn by Jean Dufaux and Ana Mirallès. It’s a very intriguing thriller that jumps between past and present as the protagonist seeks to learn about her ancestor who was the favourite in the sultan’s harem. I wasn’t sure what to expect based on the somewhat salacious covers but this series feels akin to a solid HBO drama.

Weekend Reading 75Δ: Mini-MICE

ARPAD OKAY: I’m not entirely sure what I’m reading this weekend, but that’s because of where I’m going: Mini-MICE. Boston’s finest comic convention has returned to Cambridge (I know, don’t worry about it), but this year outside, with fewer exhibitors, for shorter hours, and the other sensible moves one expects events like this to make in times like ours. Check out the wicked sweet poster by Erica Henderson of Dracula, Motherfucker! and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl fame. My dream con sketch of late is her doing Shampoo, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I blow my budget on zines and sundries from people I don’t even know yet instead. I wandered into MICE last time without motive and left deeply satisfied, so if you need me this weekend, first you can find me in Starlight Square, then don’t find me, I’m reading.

Weekend Reading 75Δ: Crisis Times Five!

TAIMUR DAR: Seeing the Justice Society in the Stargirl Season 2 has me itching to pick up where I left off with Grant Morrison’s JLA run with the “Crisis Times Five” storyline, especially after seeing the Thunderbolt appear on television.
