It’s another weekend, and that must mean it’s time for 30 Weekend Readings Later.

The Halloween season isn’t the only thing in full swing: COVID-19 continues to spread essentially unchecked in the United States, and that means here at Stately Beat Manor, we’re going to spend our Saturday and Sunday getting lost in a good book. What will you be reading? Let us know in the comment section!

30 Weekend Readings Later: Night Bites

AVERY KAPLAN: I’m in a vampire mood, so I’ll be reading Night Bites: Vampire Stories by Women, edited by Victoria A. Brownworth. I’m particularly excited for the short story “Refugio” by Terri de la Peña. Then, as far as comics goes, I’ll be keeping with the theme with Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter Volume One: Guilty Pleasures by Lauren K. Hamilton, Stacie Ritchie, Jess Ruffner-Booth, Brett Booth, Imaginary Friends Studios, Matt Moylay, Bill Tortolini, and Simon Bowland.

30 Weekend Readings Later: Sabrina: Something Wicked

JOE GRUNENWALD: I have to confess, I haven’t been in much of a reading mood lately. Aside from things I’ve read for the site I haven’t really read just for pleasure in a few weeks. I intend to change that this weekend as I catch up on comics like Tom Peyer & Alan Robinson’s Penultiman and Mark Russell & Steve Pugh’s Billionaire Island from AHOY Comics, Kelly Thompson & Veronica Fish’s current Sabrina: Something Wicked miniseries from Archie, and all the chapters of X of Swords that I fell behind on after just two weeks. Depending on what mood I’m in I may also read Brian “Box” Brown’s Child Star or Lucy Knisley’s Stepping Stones, both of which I picked up last week. Whatever happens, there will be reading!

30 Weekend Readings Later: X of Swords

PHILIPPE LEBLANC: It’s been a pretty hectic week In Ottawa and I wanted to read something I don’t usually read. I will be reading X of Swords, the weird X-Men story in which they have to gather swords for a sort of space fencing competition…I haven’t read it yet and I don’t know exactly what it’s about, but I enjoyed the House of X/Powers of X series and I have a soft spot for the X-Men.

30 Weekend Readings Later: Seven Soldiers

TAIMUR DAR: I’ve been meaning to read Grant Morrison’s epic Seven Soldiers comic book metaseries for years, so I’m finally checking that off my bucket list. Beginning to think we’re in the midst of a Sheeda invasion right now and experiencing our own Harrowing event!
