DC Studios has released the second trailer for the new Supergirl movie, due out June 26:
Unlike the first trailer, which reveled in Kara Zor-El (Milly Alcock)’s wild child persona, this one emphasizes her grief and loneliness after Krypton’s destruction. Set to Jimmy Ruffin‘s 1966 ballad “What Becomes of the Brokenhearted,” it shows how her dog Krypto was her only solace in the days that followed.
Like Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the Tom King and Bilquis Evely series it is based on, the film will see Kara accompany the young girl Ruthye Marye Knoll (Eve Ridley) on an interstellar quest to avenge her family, but raises the stakes by having their target, Krem of the Yellow Hills (Matthias Schoenaerts), inject Krypto with a poison that will kill him in three days.
As well as a cameo from Superman (David Corenswet) himself, the trailer provides a ton of Jason Momoa as the bounty hunter Lobo, who’ll aid Kara and Ruthye on their quest, riding his bike the Spacehog. (And a good thing too, as it appears Kara herself will be poisoned by Krem at some point.) We also get a glimpse of David Krumholtz as Kara’s father, Zor-El, sending her into space, before Brainiac (who’ll be portrayed by Lars Eidinger in 2027’s Man of Tomorrow) envelops the city of Kandor.
The trailer’s description also reveals Claudia Sarne (Shining Girls) will step in to compose the film’s score, instead of the previously reported Tom Holkenborg. Holkenborg, who scored Batman v Superman with Hans Zimmer, and Zack Snyder‘s cut of Justice League, was previously said to be replacing Ramin Djawadi as the film’s composer.
Additionally, a new poster for the film was revealed:
Directed by Craig Gillespie, and written by Ana Nogueira, Supergirl will fly into theaters internationally beginning June 24, before arriving in theaters and IMAX in North America on the 26th.
