Marvel Games is having a console renaissance of late with Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy and all the buzz surrounding Insomniac’s Spider-Man. Thursday at SDCC 2017, Kinda Funny’s Greg Miller hosted a murderers row of the most talented game studios in the industry to talk about their Marvel Games projects. Miller was joined by Marvel Games creative director Bill Rosemann, Marvel’s Mike Jones, Capcom’s Bret Elston, Justin Lampros from Telltale Games, Bryan Inithar from Insomniac, Arthur Parsons from TT Games, and Mark Kramer from Sanzauro which just announced a Marvel VR Game last weekend at D23.

Here are the highlights and announcements made during the panel

Marvel Powers United VR

As Mark and Bill talked about the finer points not mentioned in last weeks announcement they brought up the full 4 player cooperative play mode of the game and its locomotion movement style. Meaning you won’t teleport from one spot to another to substitute movement, this is a fully immersive experience or as close as you can get with current virtual reality tech. As Rosemann put it, this is “110% Marvel from the characters to how you’ll play”

The game’s big panel announcement was the inclusion of the merc with the mouth, Deadpool. Gameplay footage was shown demoing a wide range of options for use with Wade Wilson. Players can fire guns, throw ninja stars or beat enemies with a plunger. Jones mentioned playing a build with Deadpool and the first thing he did was shoot himself in the head and how the game simulated an episode of tinnitus from the ringing.

Marvel Powers United VR launches exclusively for the Oculus in 2018.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

Bret Elston talked about Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite’s recent appearance at EVO, the major video game fighting tournament. Footage was shown focusing on the recently shown Gamora’s moveset and the use of the Mind Infinity stone. In the new footage, players could build their super move meter to level four and unleash a unique Infinity stone attack. Gamora created a shadow version of her self inflicting double the damage on opponents. More characters such as Haggar from Final Fight and Spider-Man were also shown off. Anyone who played previous Marvel Vs Capcom games will feel right at home as the character brings all of his previous moves.

Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite launches for Xbox One and PS4 September 17.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2

The man behind the LEGO versions of your favorite comic book characters gleamed once again showing off his genuine affection for comics. He talked about how large this new Marvel Super Heroes would be. In the game, Kang the Conqueror has smashed together various dimensions to create a massive hubworld known as Chronopolis. It’s LEGO’s biggest stage to date, think of it as an interactive museum/command center. Players will select missions, view the game’s unlockables and uncover secrets in Chronopolis. Last week, TT revealed Tom Hollands prototype Spidey suit would be a character in the game, at SDCC they showed off a completely new character in Carnom. Yes, that is a hybrid of Venom and Carnage. Parson’s explained the story would put the two together in a way that will make sense to the readers and was keen on Marvel letting him create something brand new. In a welcomed bit of news, Parsons talked about inspirations for their story and mentioned the Avengers Forever series. It was then the group mentioned writer Kirk Busiek would be contributing to the LEGO Marvel 2 narrative. We’ll be talking with Arthur this weekend before the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 panel where a lot more surprises were teased.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 launches November 14, 2017 on Xbox One, PC, Switch, and PS4.

Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series

Telltale came off a stellar episode 2 which dove into Rockets past and uncovered his lost love. The developer talked about episode three focusing on Gamora. A short clip of the episode was shown which had Gamora and Nebula facing off in combat training with the green skinned assassin getting the better of her sister till the interruption of Thanos. The episode won’t be without humor. At the end of Gamora’s flashback, she’s awakened by a Star-Lord slap setting off one of Marvel’s best slap fights ever. Telltale also talked about how remaining episodes would dive into Groot and Drax.

GOTG: The Telltale Series episode 3 launches on August 22nd.

CONTEST OF CHAMPIONS

The Marvel mobile game is getting some Spider upgrades as Vulture and Green Gobiln are making their way to the title.

FUTURE FIGHT

Their other mobile endeavor wasn’t without news of its own as we found out a character from the recent Monsters Unlimited series will make a Marvel Games debut. Kid Kaiju, a character who makes whatever he draws come to life is available for Future Fight.

Marvel Spider-Man

Winner of the Comics Beat E3 best of show and one of the most anticipated games of 2018 still doesn’t have a release date. Not for a lack of Greg Miller trying to get them to announce one. The moderator pulled stopped just short of making one up as he entertained the crowd by trying to bait Insomniac into revealing something.  The train fight concept art was once again shown, but no new information was given during the panel.
