At the San Diego Comic-Con premiere of the new DC animated film Batman: Hush, a surprise panel following the film dropped the bomb that an animated film adaptation of the critically-acclaimed Elseworlds comic Superman: Red Son will be released in 2020.

The original story by Mark Millar, Dave Johnson, Andrew Robinson, and Kilian Plunkett is an alternate reality tale which explores what would happen if baby Kal-El landed in Soviet Russia in the 1950s instead of Kansas.

There has been chatter of an animated adaptation earlier this year but details were unconfirmed by the studio.

Aside from the announcement itself, no further details about the upcoming adaptation were revealed. Justice League Dark: Apokalips War and the original film Superman: Man of Tomorrow will follow the release of Superman: Red Son from Warner Bros.
