During the Star Trek panel in Hall H at SDCC ’19, Star Trek: Lower Decks co-executive producers Heather Kadin and Alex Kurtzman announced the full voice cast of the upcoming animated series. The two Rick and Morty fans said that in creating Lower Decks, they reached out to head writer Mike McMahan to help develop this new series.

Starring in the half-hour, animated Star Trek: Lower Decks — which focuses on four ensigns who live on a “not important ship” in the Star Trek universe — are Tawny Newsome as Ensign Mariner, Jack Quaid as Ensign Brad Boimer, Noel Wells as Ensign Tendi, and Eugene Cordero as Ensign Rutherford (who has a new cyborg implant on his head).

Additional cast includes Fred Tatasciore as Lieutenant Shaxs, Dawnn Lewis as Captain Freeman, Jerry O’Connell (who moderated the Lower Decks portion of Saturday’s panel) as Commander Ransom, and Gillian Vigman as Dr. T’Ana.

CBS All Access has ordered two seasons of the series, per Variety. It will be produced by CBS Eye Animation Productions, Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout, and Roddenberry Entertainment.
