We were tooling around MySpace when we ran across a bulletin from Rich Tommaso about the upcoming graphic novel bio of legendary pitcher Satchel Paige.
Yes, it was going to be delayed a year, but now Hyperion Books has decided to release James Sturm’s and Rich Tommaso’s “Satchel Paige Striking Out Jim Crow” this summer!– I am very excited about this news and I hope to have some advance copies ready for MoCCA this year!
Tommaso posts a promo piece as his picture. As we recall, Hyperion is also putting out a Harry Houdini bio by James Strum and Nick Bertozzi. We haven’t heard too much about this series of books of late, but we’ll probably hear more as 2007 ramps up, and they are certainly something to look forward to.
The Houdini book is going to be by Jason Lutes, not James Sturm, and Bertozzi. Also Comics Reporter linked to the cover of that book a few days ago and it looks pretty good.

There is a third book as well, I believe: a biography of Henry David Thoreau. It’s illustrated by John Porcellino, and uses only original text by Throreau in the “writing” department.
