In the Flood expands ComiXology Originals’ graphic novel lineup with a release date for adjusts glasses next week! This surprise announcement boasts plotting and art from Ray Fawkes (One Soul Batman: Eternal), colors by Lee Loughridge (Ruby Falls) and letters by Thomas Mauer (The Beauty, The Dark). Together, the trio composes a story about a troubled marriage, trying to stay afloat in the midst of an apocalyptic flood; steeped in with elements from David Lynch films and Haruki Murakami novels.

Fawkes backs up those claims for In the Flood, saying that his latest work is “unique and nonlinear,” “full of metaphor and symbolism, grounded by a very human, very emotional tale of love and loss.” It’s a labor of love for the Eisner-nominated figurative painter and writer – right down to a curious mention about his passion for cards. Apparently, the story will tie into Fawkes’ fascination with the hobby that almost became his profession, though ComiXology won’t say more on that yet.

For now, just prepare yourself for mystery, experimental structure and whatever cerebral tricks this team has up its sleeve.

In the Flood joins an ever-expanding line-up from the digital distributor that now includes creators Chip Zdarsky, Jason Loo, Alex Segura, George Kambadais, Vita Ayala, Danny Lore and Jamie Jones and everything from ongoings to manga and graphic novels. Like all ComiXology Originals, this upcoming comic will be available for free to those with an Unlimited membership, or for individual purchase on December 18.
