The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that an animated series based on Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming‘s long-running comic Powers is being developed for Netflix. Bendis will write the show’s first episode, while Oeming is involved in its art direction. Powers, which launched in 2000, is an adult superhero crime comic, that follows homicide detectives Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim in a version of Chicago inhabited by “powers.”

This will mark the second TV series based on Powers, following the live-action take released by the PlayStation Network during its brief foray into original programming in 2015. That show, which was originally developed for FX, and starred Sharlto Copley and Susan Heyward as Christian and Deena, ran for two seasons, and ultimately became PSN’s only original series.

The book has been published by various companies, but is currently released by Dark Horse Comics, and as such, Dark Horse Entertainment’s Keith Goldberg and Chris Tongue will serve as executive producers on the series. It is the second Bendis project in the works at Netflix (which Dark Horse has a first-look deal with), following a film version of Torso, produced by Weapons director Zach Cregger.

In the meantime, issue #7 (of 12) of the latest Powers comic, Powers ’25, is available now. You can check out every solicited issue on the official Dark Horse website. The first trade paperback, collecting the first six issues, will be released on July 7.
