The Oscar nominations are out, and though DARK KNIGHT scored a respectable 8 nominations — including one for Heath Ledger as Best Supporting Actor, DARK KNIGHT was shut out of the Best Picture running. WALL*E got 6 noms. including Best Screenplay and WALTZ WITH BASHIR was nominated for Best Foriegn Film, the first animated film to make that category. WANTED got two nominations in the Sound editing categories, IRON MAN, two, for sound editing and visual effects, and HELLBOY II also got one for Make-up.

Note: we like IRON MAN just fine but that’s purely a popularity vote; SPEED RACER had far better effects. Yes! We said it!

BENJAMIN BUTTON got 13 nominations, one shy of the record, and we’re certain it will win Best Picture, which will
mark its second win.

  1. I liked Button, but after seeing that little trailer you posted, even I had to laugh because when people ask me what Button was like, I said Forrest Gump. Good picture, not sure it was worth 13 nominations though and certainly not best picture.

  2. Wow 13 noms for Button? I didn’t think it was that remarkable. I’m personally expecting Slumdog Millionaire to win best picture.

  3. A number of people are pointing out that F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote the short story six decades before the story of Forrest Gump was written … but that seems to be dorwned in the sea of “voices” saying “Yeah, it was just like Gump.” Perhaps the filmmakers patterned the movie after Gump, but that shouldn’t be a negative reflection on old F. Scott.
