As we noted earlier today, comics are going through a wave of speculation on new titles, and the latest beneficiary is Narco #1, by Doug Wagner (Plastus) and Daniel Hillyard, a crime thriller about a narcoleptic trying to solve a murder.
Narco #1 is Image’s latest debut to be rushed back to print. Debuting on March 4th, the book has already sold out at the distributor level and Image is rushing it back for a second printing, with an all-new cover by Hillyard. IMage is definitely getting in on this speculation boom, warning “NARCO SELL-OUT A WAKEUP CALL TO READERS WHO SLEPT ON THIS PULSE-POUNDING NEW THRILLER, DEBUT RUSHED BACK TO PRINT THIS WEEK” in an email.
“I can’t believe that Narco is going for a second print run,” Hillyard says in a press release. “I tried to think of clever pun about passing out, but came up blank.”
Wagner adds, “Seeing Narco #1 sell out this fast caught us off guard in the best possible way. I’m still trying to process it. I can’t express fully how incredibly grateful I am to the retailers and readers for taking a chance on us.”
Narco follows a character named Marcus Wesphal, a narcoleptic who witnesses the murder of the girl who lives next door. Named the prime suspect in the case, the series showcases Marcus as he works to clear his name and solve the murder himself — all before he blacks out again.
“Over the last 10 years or so, Doug Wagner and Daniel Hillyard have quietly been banging out offbeat classic after offbeat classic, and their unique sensibilities make each and every one of them seem like a visit to a seductively strange alternative universe full of engagingly over-the-top concepts and hilariously oddball characters,” Image publisher Eric Stephenson says of the series. “For anyone who hasn’t paid a visit to one of their weird and wonderful worlds, Narco is the just about the perfect point of entry!”
As we noted earlier Narco isn’t the first red-hot debut from Image over the past month or so as titles like D’orc, White Sky, and Death Fight Forever have all sold out before the day of release.
While some shops may have some copies of Narco #1 laying about, the second printing is set to hit the selves on Wednesday, April 1st. Narco #2 is scheduled for release on April 15th while #3 is due out on May 20th.
