A legendary pirate is sailing into Fenway Park. In a historic moment for anime fans, One Piece protagonist Monkey D. Luffy will throw the ceremonial first pitch at the Boston Red Sox game on Saturday, May 3, during the highly anticipated Red Sox x One Piece Theme Day. This marks the first time in franchise history that a One Piece character mascot has been honored with a first pitch at a Major League Baseball game.
Back by popular demand after last year’s successful debut, the themed celebration returns to Boston in a bigger way. With over 6,300 fans expected, the 2025 event sold out in record time, proving the franchise’s deep roots in American pop culture. Fans who secured tickets through redsox.com/onepiece will receive exclusive collaborative merchandise, including a Red Sox x One Piece baseball jersey for all attendees and an additional hat for VIP ticket holders.
Leading up to the 4:10 p.m. Red Sox-Twins game, fans can enjoy a full lineup of One Piece-themed activities beginning at 1:40 p.m., including a fan meet-up, a card game demo, and photo opportunities with beloved Straw Hat Pirates, Monkey D. Luffy and Chopper.
Produced by Toei Animation and based on the hit manga by Eiichiro Oda, One Piece is one of the longest-running and most beloved anime franchises in the world. Since its debut over 25 years ago, it has grown into a global phenomenon with millions of fans, numerous feature films, and a recent surge in popularity thanks to its ongoing Egghead Island arc.
Fans attending the event are encouraged to share their experiences online using the hashtags #ONEPIECE and #RedSox.
