It’s one step up and two steps back for the Marvel Cinematic Universe this week. While Avengers: Doomsday wrapped principal photography, Tom Holland suffered an injury on the set of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which will delay production while he recovers.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Avengers: Doomsday wrapped over the weekend, although Marvel Studios is set for “a healthy dose” of additional photography by the Russo Bros. before the movie can be finalized. Given earlier rumors that the movie was shooting without a completed script, and the likelihood of cameos in addition to Doomsday‘s huge, 27-character principal cast, reshoots should be no surprise…but of course, every time a big blockbuster goes back for additional photography, the internet begins speculating that the movie is doomed.
Crew members have been active on social media, with one sharing a video of a dancing Doctor Doom hologram from the wrap party and another showing off a wrap gift — a carry-on bag featuring embroidered art of 28 characters — the 27 announced in the Doomsday casting video, and Franklin Richards.
Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which started production in August, is now on hiatus following an on-set accident that injured star Tom Holland. The star was treated for a minor concussion, and filming was halted out of an abundance of caution, according to Deadline. They report Holland expects to return to work soon; a production meeting happened on Monday to set a new schedule.
Holland was examined at a local hospital but released, and appeared publicly with his fiancee Zendaya over the weekend, so it seems he is hale and healthy after the scare.
Holland is one of a number of notable MCU characters who aren’t expected to throw down with Robert Downey, Jr.‘s Doctor Doom. While the Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Loki will appear in the next Avengers movies, the only actual Avengers confirmed to appear are Captain America (Anthony Mackie), Falcon (Danny Ramirez), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and Shang-Chi (Simu Liu). Avengers villain Loki (Tom Hiddleston) will also have a role.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day hails from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Daniel Destin Cretton. The film stars Holland alongside Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Mark Ruffalo, Jon Bernthal, and Marvin Jones III, among others.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which supposedly kicks off a new trilogy with Holland in the lead, will be in theaters on July 31, 2026. Avengers: Doomsday is expected in theaters on December 18, 2026.

Er, I’m pretty sure you mean Anthony Mackie, yes?
