Former Vertigo assistant editor Mariah Huehner on what an editor does at the new SEQENTIAL TART:

Many people don’t seem to realize that what editors are really for (besides making sure the entire system works, no one’s ego gets bruised, and oh, yeah, that the books ship on time) … is to help the creator realize their idea. Not dictate the idea, not ghost write it, not come up with it, not blast it all to hell and make them do something else, but coax it out of the creator and help them make it the best it can possibly be. This is more difficult than you might imagine.

Ferret Press begs us all to “Help Dean buy a shirt…”

Gracious Eric Reynolds quietly acknowledges that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Seriously, IDW’s DICK TRACY reprints do look a teensy bit like the Seth-designed Peanuts collections.

Other websites have covered the new Oh! Great controversy in better detail — basically the new manga from the creator of Tenjho Tenge was mildly censored—but Del Rey’s Dallas Middaugh has apologized nonetheless. Fans notice this kind of thing. You can read about the actual changes here. Quite minor stuff, but the lesson by now is clear: leave Oh! Great alone.
