During yesterday’s Disney advertising upfront, Charlie Cox and Krysten Ritter took to the stage to announce the latter will be reprising the role of Jessica Jones in season two of Daredevil: Born Again. Ritter, who last appeared as the character on season three of her Netflix show in 2019, said, “I’m so excited to bring back this iconic character, and without giving too much away, there is much more in store for Jessica Jones. This is going to be an incredible season.”
Now, spoilers for those who haven’t watch Born Again‘s first season finale yet: the last episode ended with Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Cox) plotting to form “an army” to bring down Mayor Wilson Fisk/Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio). Matt befriended Jessica during the events of the 2017 miniseries The Defenders, and if the finale of her own show is any indication, she should still be active in Hell’s Kitchen, running Alias Investigations, although nine years have transpired in Born Again (set in 2027) since the events of that show (which, like all the Marvel Netflix series, took place before the events of Avengers: Infinity War in 2018.)
Ritter’s return opens the door for further Jessica Jones appearances and solo projects, much like how Jon Bernthal‘s comeback as the Punisher/Frank Castle in Born Again season one has paved the way for a Disney+ special, which Bernthal is also writing. Whether this will also be the case, or if this also indicates more of Matt’s Defenders teammates (eg. Mike Colter‘s Luke Cage or Jessica Henwick‘s Colleen Wing/Iron Fist) will appear on Born Again, remains to be seen. In any case, Born Again season two will premiere sometime around March 2026. All three seasons of Jessica Jones (or AKA Jessica Jones, 2015-19), and The Defenders, are available now in the meantime on Disney+ and Blu-ray.
In further news from Disney’s upfronts, the company revealed Noah Hawley‘s Alien prequel series, Alien: Earth, will premiere on FX and Hulu (Disney+ internationally) on Tuesday, August 12, at 8pm ET/PT; and that all ten episodes of The Bear season four (co-starring Ben Grimm/Thing actor Ebon Moss-Bachrach) will be released on Hulu/Disney+ on Wednesday, June 25.
