It seemed like we’ve been waiting forever to see the first trailer for Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn, but Warner Bros. finally released it today ahead of its February 7, 2020 release…. and it looks pretty nuts!

It’s no surprise that Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn is front and center, as apparently, she plays a large part in forming the Birds of Prey, including Mary Elizabeth Winstead as the Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary and Elena Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain.

On the actual villain side of things, there’s Ewan McGregor as Black Mask, who we see briefly and Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz, the long-time Batman baddie. Rosie Perez plays the GCPD’s finest Renee Montoya.

Directed by Cathy Yan, the trailer proves what most of us already knew, that Margot Robbie’s Harley was the best part of the 2016 movie Suicide Squad, and it’s absolutely zero surprise that she’ll be back for James Gunn‘s sequel, coming out in 2021. From the trailer, it looks like Yan has made a movie that can stand up to the crazy humor of the two “Deadpool” movies, although this one will presumably be PG-13.

Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think. In case you missed it, Warners also released four really cool LP-sized promo posters for the movie, which you can glom in today’s Studio Coffee Run.

  1. Cassandra Cain seems awfully chatty for a character who was originally introduced as mute, so I guess that element of her character has been dropped. I wish I was more surprised about that.

  2. This trailer… oh, hey, needlessly over-vibrant rainbow barf color palette, obnoxiously loud pop song, costumes bereft of anything reminiscent of the source material and Black Mask… sans a black mask for some reason.

  3. So Black Canary is being played by the sister of the guy who faked the hate crime in Chicago? Interesting. Then again, Ava Duvarney has announced she is proud to collaborate with Brian Wood.
