As you may recall, The Boys is winding down soon. You might be wondering what Garth Ennis is going to be filling his dance card with, post-boys? It seems Ennis is revisiting war comics, with one final outing for his “Battlefields” franchise.
Battlefields is a series of mini-series. Usually, there’s three sets of 3-issue mini-series to a volume, so we’ll have to see if this is the final mini-series or the first segment of the final batch. “The Green Fields Beyond” will be the third Battlefields go-round for the Sargent Stiles character from the Tankies and The Firefly & His Majesty mini-series.
Joining Ennis for art chores on this will be Carlos Ezquerra. Ezquerra, not coincidentally, was the artist on the previous two Battlefields mini-series with the Stiles character. While Ezquerra has done some work with Ennis for the US market, he’s an absolute legend in the UK for his long association with 2000 A.D. strips like Judge Dredd and Strontium Dog.
AS THE BOYS ENDS, GARTH ENNIS’ BATTLEFIELDS RETURNS FOR ITS FINAL SERIES!!!
COMING TO STORES THIS NOVEMBER!!!
August 15, 2012, Runnemede, NJ -While the hit series, The Boys, reaches its final issue with issue #72, writer Garth Ennis returns to his acclaimed Battlefields series one last time with Battlefields #1: The Green Fields Beyond Part 1!!! Make sure to pick Battlefields #1: The Green Fields Beyond Part 1 up this November, written by Garth Ennis and drawn by Carlos Ezquerra, with an amazing cover by Garry Leach!
In Battlefields #1: The Green Fields Beyond Part 1, on the killing fields of Korea, the Tankies find themselves back up the sharp end, as veteran Sergeant Stiles is finally given a tank that can take on any opposition. Unfortunately, the Chinese spring offensive of 1951 is on its way- leaving our heroes cut off, on their own and outnumbered ten to one. It’s British steel against massed Communist hordes, as the last Battlefields series begins with a bang.
“I have been wanting to write this one for a long, long time, the return of Sergeant Stiles and the Tankies in the third and final run of Battlefields,” says writer Garth Ennis! “This is my favorite series, my favorite subject to write about and I couldn’t be happier. And working with Carlos Ezquerra again is the icing on the cake!”
“Garth Ennis has a razor grasp of military history, with his rare ability of clothing his fictional, characters with real flesh, blood and emotion,” adds issue #1 cover artist Garry Leach. “Coupled with Carlos Ezquerra’s ever masterful story telling, makes Battlefields a flawless gem of pure comic art.”
“Garth Ennis takes WWII to the highest level with Battlefields #1: The Green Fields Beyond Part 1,” states interior artist Carlos Ezquerra. “And what else can I say other than… I love Sergeant Stiles!”
In a perfect world, Garth Ennis would be doing war comics monthly.
How about Ennis showing DC what “Stormwatch” can realy do??
… and while we’re at it how about getting Midnighter out of that stupid costume?
So “taking WWII to its highest level” involves doing a story about the Korean War?
