Tiny Onion just cannot stop hiring people! The newest recruit to the ranks of James Tynion’s independent production house is Sami DeMonster who will join as Community Manager. DeMonster joins recently promoted Director of Narrative & Editor-in-Chief Eric Harburn, and Harley Salbacka who has been promoted from Community & Events Manager to Events & Libraries Manager.

DeMonster is a well known social media figure and comic book expert and she’ll be in charge of community outreach.

She will run the company’s social media accounts and will be producing original content for their channels, including making weekly New Comic Book Day videos in collaboration with popular Los Angeles comic book store Revenge Of, as well as covering Tiny Onion’s activities at conventions and events. She will also be overseeing community management for the production house, engaging with fans online.

DeMonster has collaborated with virtually every comics publisher and creators including Tynion, while amassing more than 30,000 followers on Instagram, and 40,000 followers on TikTok, with over 1 million likes. She also hosted Revenge Of’s globally streamed “Comic Creator Couch Party” last year. According to her bio, she is expert on the Slaughterverse and moderated Slaughterverse panels at SDCC, C2E2 and NYCC. All of which makes her an excellent candidate for continuing to work with Tynion’s company.

“I absolutely love Tiny Onion and all that they do,” said DeMonster. “I am a huge fan of James’s work and that of all the amazing Tiny Onion creators. They are constantly pushing the boundaries of storytelling and are masters of the craft. I am incredibly honored to be a part of the team and help bring their vision to social media, as well as represent the community!”

“Sami’s understanding of comics and horror fandoms is singular,” said Tynion. “Over the last year she’s done an amazing job of communicating with our fans and getting them more excited about SIKTC, Exquisite Corpses, and our many projects. We are a better company for having her join the Tiny Onion team.”

“Working with Sami on projects over the last couple of years has been a dream,” said Tiny Onion Director of Communications, Jazzlyn Stone. “Sami has always naturally understood Tiny Onion’s mission and vision, so she’s the perfect fit for our Community Manager. We’re so excited to bring her on to our team in a full-time capacity.”

Salbacka’s promotion comes after the success of the Corpse Tour (the global Exquisite Corpses comic book tour with Tynion and the Corpse Crew of creators), and she’ll oversee further expansion of Tiny Onion’s events and in-person programming, as well as  even further. In addition to events, Salbacka will also take the lead in launching Tiny Onion’s first ever Libraries program.

Salbacka’s C.V. includes a stint managing a comic shop, and time at Humanoids and Boom!, where she worked with libraries and ran the Boom booth at the American Library Association (ALA) conference.

“I’m excited to be working with the library market again,” said Salbacka. “Libraries are one of the most important institutions in keeping literacy and comics alive in communities. I’m excited to see what cool things Tiny Onion and librarians will do together!”

“I’ve always admired Harley’s deep understanding and dedication to libraries,” said Tynion. “She has helped Tiny Onion reach new audiences at conventions and our events, and we’re excited for her to help us grow within the library space. We’re so grateful to librarians for the essential work that they do, and we’re looking forward to working with them to make Tiny Onion’s books accessible to more fans and first-time readers.”

In addition to the promotions, other recent Tiny Onion hires include Bryce Gold as Operations Manager for Publishing, Casey Gonzalez as Director of Multimedia Development for Animation, Andra Hermann as Operations Manager for Communications, and Dylan Todd as Senior Designer.
