Dark RedDark Red, the vampiric political satire story from AfterShock Comics, is getting its first collection, which is due out later this month.

Dark Red Vol. 1, which is slated for release on Nov. 20, will collect this series’ first five issues, all of which feature the creative team of writer Tim Seeley, artist Corin Howell, colorist Mark Englert, and letterer Marshall Dillon. This book tells the story of Charles “Chip” Ipswitch, who mans the counter at an overnight gas station in rural America and fits the media’s profile of the so-called “forgotten man.” The twist here is that Chip is also a vampire.

Scary — in more ways than one. Anyway, in the lead up to the trade release, AfterShock Comics has sent The Beat the opening 10 pages from the volume’s first issue, which you can find below after the jump. Enjoy!

Charles “Chip” Ipswich isn’t one of those coastal elites with a liberal arts degree and a job at a social media start-up who knows where all the best brunch places are…

No, Chip is one of the “forgotten men.” He lives in a rural area in the middle of the country where Jesus still has a place at the dinner table and where factories ship jobs to Calcutta.

Chip is also a vampire.

Stuck working the last shift at a gas station, Chip is lonely and bored…and then his dull, bleak life is turned upside down when SHE comes to town. Now, Chip is forced to become the hero he has always wanted to be, and save his quiet town.

Tim Seeley (BRILLIANT TRASH, Hack/Slash, Revival) and Corin Howell (The Girl in the Bay) bring you a contemporary and horrifying tale of vampirism in the heart of America — one that’ll make you jump right out of your boots. Volume 1 contains the first arc: issues #1-5.
