Cartoonist Jim Rugg has been around the block once or twice. The Eisner Award winner has worked on books such as The P.L.A.I.N. Janes and Afrodisiac. He also art directed the astounding Little Nemo: Dream Another Dream. Now, Rugg is back with a new hardcover, full color edition of his beloved series Street Angel.

Heidi added: In case you missed it Street Angel, first published in 2004 by Slave Labor and it introduced both a titanic comics talent – Jim Rugg – and a character way ahead of her time, Street Angel. At the time, it was still believed that women and girls didn’t read comics, and the idea of a comic starring a homeless 12-year-old girl who rode skateboards and kicked ass was seen as a completely uncommercial idea. Along with Scott Pilgrim (which came out around the same time) Street Angel helped open up the possibilities of what comics could be successful.

And now Street Angel aka Jesse Sanchez is back in an all ass kicking, all color  after school special. While the concept may be common place now, Rugg’s lively cartooning and the often heartbreaking storylines are still strong.
