Oni Press will be releasing an original graphic novel called SOMA written by Fernando Llor and illustrated by Carles Dalmau. Originally announced this past July, the comic features some very distinct art with some fantastic coloring to boot.
Llor has written Ojos Grises, Subnormal: Una Historia de Acoso Escolar, and has also earned nominations for various awards including winning the best Spanish Writer at the José Sanchis Grau Awards in 2019. SOMA will mark the writer’s English debut. Meanwhile, Dalmau designed the characters for the hit video game Cult of the Lamb and wrote and illustrated his first webcomic Lucid Lucy.
Comics Beat has the exclusive preview before the February release. You can check out these vividly colored pages right below:
The science-fiction adventure graphic novel follows a comic book artist named Maya who’s having a problem that’s probably familiar to many people in the art industry: writer’s block. Constantly stressed about looming headlines and feeling doubt that she’s not doing work that she loves, Maya’s in a real crisis. But apparently, the universe decided that her life wasn’t hard enough and threw an extraterrestrial alien into the mix, specifically her living room, as well. The alien named Soma has a message for Maya: an alien invasion is coming and he needs her help to stop it before it’s too late.
SOMA releases on February 25, contains 288 pages, and is priced at $24.99.
