The battle of Hyrkania continues this week with the release of Red Sonja: Lord of Fools. Written by Mark Russell and drawn by Bob Q, the one-shot connects directly into the aftermath of June’s Red Sonja #6, continuing the iconic red-haired warrior’s history of war, political intrigue, and magic.

This special edition actually gives fans two tales starring Sonja. In the first story by Russell and Bob Q, Cyril is the Crown Prince of the Zamoran Empire and the son of Dragan the Magnificant, who is currently at war with Sonja. He is young but not stupid. The mysterious blind priest he encounters at the capital palace will unlock the secrets of The Lord of Fools. Cyril will learn his fate, and what it will mean for the known world.

For the second tale, artist Katie O’Meara joins Russell to share the story of Cerkus, Sonja the Red’s tongue of fire. Christian Ward (Thor, Black Bolt) offers beautiful cover art for the one-shot while Dearbhla Kelly and Hassan Ostmane-Elhaou are on colors and letters respectively.

Red Sonja: Lord of Fools is on sale in comic shops on July 31. It will also be available digitally on Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, ComicsPlus, and more. Head over to Dynamite Comics’ website to order your copy of the issue and get more info on the one-shot. While you are there, check out other Red Sonja goodies from the publisher.

Ahead of the release, The Beat received an exclusive preview of the art. Check it out below.
