Marblehead, the upcoming original middle-grade graphic novel, documents the incredible feats of the racially integrated Marblehead regiment in the Continental Army. The diverse soldiers included Spanish, Native American, Jewish, and African American men, and the ogn reveals their battlefield successes, perfectly timed with the symbolic Thanksgiving holiday in the 250th year of the Declaration of Independence. Written by Matt Yocum, a retired U.S. Air Force colonel and former Marvel Comics scribe, and illustrated by Timothy Geathers, the book is colored by Gracie Eastridge and Khoi Pham, and lettered and designed by Nick Welch.

Marblehead is an essential and beautifully told story of unity in diversity, triumph over adversity, and the shared dream of a new republic for all. Set in 1776 Marblehead, Massachusetts, a diverse fishing community just north of British-controlled Boston, the story follows three soldiers–white, Black, and Native. We see the hope and heartache of the new generation, the ones who fought for and forged a new America. Much like the harsh fishing trade demanded teamwork and discipline, this is the story of three young men fighting for their own futures and that of a nation in its infancy.

“Having served the nation for 30 years in the military, I was honored to write the story of the Marblehead Regiment and their role in America’s origin,” said Yocum. “The camaraderie found in combat – where it comes down to fighting for the man beside you – transcends time, and I related to those who fought long ago. America continues the grand experiment that changed the world, and only by remembering our past can we honor those who gave their all for future generations. I’m proud to have contributed to that remembrance.”
