Cheetah has slain Aphrodite with the magical weapon, Godkiller, further enhanced and bound to Cheetah by Lex Luthor. As people lose empathy for one another and even Steve leaves Diana behind, Wonder Woman is forced to turn to her longtime nemesis, Veronica Cale, for help in defeating Cheetah. However, what Cale gives Diana, ultimately, is not a solution to her problem, but rather a serum that strengthens Cheetah further. As this week’s Wonder Woman #81 begins, Wonder Woman is on her back, alone and betrayed.
Without her friends, her lover, or any of her own weapons, all Wonder Woman has left is her own strength. It’s an admirable amount, but in the face of villains united, it may not be enough.
