To kick off the new year, Oni Press will release a complete edition of the romantic comedy roadtrip saga A Thing Called Truth written by Iolanda Zanfardino and illustrated by Elisa Romboli. Ahead of the book’s release in January, The Beat has an exclusive sneak peek at one of its scenes.
A Thing Called Truth follows dedicated scientist Dr. Magdalene Traumer and spontaneous nomad Dorian Wildfang on a mission that takes them all across Europe. Their trip proves that opposites do attract, as unexpected romantic feelings spark between them.
This new volume collects all 10 chapters of the comic, marking the first time chapters 6-10 will be sold in stores after previously being available exclusively through Kickstarter.

Here’s the book’s full synopsis:
Embark on a chaotic LGBTQ+ road trip adventure with a workaholic scientist and a fearless thrillseeker on a mission to honor the past and live in the present in Iolanda Zanfardino (Midnight Radio) and Elisa Romboli’s (Alice In Leatherland) creator-owned romantic comedy collaboration, A Thing Called Truth.
Dr. Magdalene Traumer, a brilliant scientist with the noble dream of saving the world, meets Dorian Wildfang, a free-spirited wanderer who fears nothing . . . except her own destiny. Together, they embark on a wild adventure across Europe, chasing a mission that proves that life is about the journey and not the destination. Along the way, these seemingly polar opposite companions find common ground on a journey that sparks an unexpected romance as they navigate the complexities of self-discovery and the challenges of a world on the brink of chaos.
In the volume’s announcement, Zanfardino said, “A Thing Called Truth is a story full of love. Love of cinema, the wind in your hair, new cities yet to be explored, and the brave fire in the eyes of a woman coming into her own. It’s a soul searching story about finding the balance between devoting yourself fully to a goal and being able to enjoy life with no regrets. About the dream of leaving your mark on the world. About the reasons for yearning to go far away—and those that will take you back home. It’s about how you can’t keep running forever, but facing the world gets easier when you find out you’re not alone anymore.”
A Thing Called Truth will be available everywhere books are sold on January 6, 2026.
