Back in March, Vault Comics announced Engineward, a new science fiction/fantasy series set to bring a zodiac-themed book to the publisher’s stellar lineup of comics. Now the much-anticipated first issue is ready to hit stores this week and The Beat has an exclusive look at never-before-seen pages.
Read the official synopsis here:
Earth is an ancient myth, long forgotten. Now, the word of the god-like Celestials is absolute, and they rule with brutal efficiency. When Joss, an Engineward, discovers and reactivates the head of an ancient ghoulem, she finds all is not as intended. Her destiny—and that of her world—lies somewhere far beyond the borders of her shantytown.
The twelve-issue series is written by Sunday Times bestselling novelist, scriptwriter, and creator of the supernatural crime series Wychwood George Mann and illustrated by Joe Eisma, co-creator of Morning Glories, the Eisner-nominated and New York Times Bestselling series from Image Comics. Colors are by Michael Garland, letters are by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, and designs are by Tim Daniel.
Each installment will also feature a special “Zodiac Cover” drawn by Eisma and designed by Daniel, portraying one of the twelve Celestials of Engineward. The covers will be released according to the zodiac calendar and the sign they represent. Look for variant covers by Nathan Gooden and Jen Hickman
“I couldn’t be happier to be working with Joe and the team at Vault Comics on Engineward,” said Mann. “This is a story that’s been brewing in my head for nearly a decade, and seeing Joe breathing life into these characters is something very special indeed. He’s bringing such a fantastic look to the series. I can’t wait for people to meet Joss, Ichabod, Kreek, and Thrycia, and to delve deep into the mythology of the Celestials alongside us. It’s going to be a wild ride!”
Eisma added, “I’m so fired up about Engineward! The science fiction genre is one I have always wanted to work on since the beginning of my career, and I’m so excited about this book! George has crafted a really thrilling and intricate story that I think will really excite readers. Crafting this world with him has really energized my art, and I can’t wait for everyone to join us on this epic journey!”
Engineward #1 will be available at your favorite local comic shop on Wednesday, July 15. Get an exclusive look at a few interior pages and the covers below.
