Cosmic Lion has unveiled the covers of two of its upcoming releases, aligning with the publisher’s theme of “reintroduction,” where creators from back in the 70s to 90s get reintroduced to the modern indie comics audience.
The second issue of Termite Mound marks the penultimate issue in Matt Howard‘s series and kicks off the publisher’s wider Matt Howarth Library. A sci-fi epic, Termite Mound asks, “When one man climbs to the top of the termite mound, will his daring act free a society under siege? And will the mysterious dreadlocked man keep him safe along the way?”
The other release in November comes from a deeply personal place in publisher Eli Schwab’s heart. Parafrenic was created by Gary Cramer and Tate Griffen, the former of whom who has played a role in Schwab’s comics journey. Schwab and Cramer go way back, all the way to when Schwab was a child. The publisher reconnected with Cramer after he unearthed the first independent comic he bought when he took a trip back home.
“Gary is from my hometown and worked in the comic shop I went to when I was growing up,” Schwab explained. “He also created the very first independent comic I ever bought. On a recent trip home to sort through my collection, I found the comic and looked Gary up online to discover he was still making new material. I immediately wrote to tell him about Cosmic Lion and that I was a publisher now. We struck up a friendship, and that has resulted in me publishing his latest comic. It’s a full-circle moment and I just love telling that story.”
Parafrenic introduces comic book fans to a half-man half-monster named Paris Larkoff who tries to navigate the dangerous Vagrant Street. Paris has to not only survive the world that’s filled with creepy creatures but also try to earn a living as an actor “in a world where it isn’t always evident that the cameras have started (or stopped) rolling.” Parafrenic features stories with authentic cultural references from the 70s and 80s due its creators growing up during those times.
