Oni Press released the latest installment in its A Quick & Easy Guide series on Tuesday, this time focusing on how to form and maintain healthy relationships.
Written and illustrated by cartoonist Mariah-Rose Marie, A Quick & Easy Guide to Healthy Relationships takes place in a fictional, multicultural neighborhood called Sun Heights. However, it deals with real issues and offers tips for navigating all kinds of difficult situations.
Today, The Beat can offer an exclusive preview from the book, featuring advice on how to deal with tough times in our friendships. Take a look below.

In the book’s announcement earlier this year, Marie said, “It’s full of relatable little stories of drama, humor, heartbreak, and healing, with a feel somewhere between Richard Scarry’s Busy Busy Town and MTV’s Downtown. People of all ages and upbringings will be able to finish this book with insight on how to be more thoughtful and caring with ourselves, and therefore, with those around us too.
“It feels like the perfect moment to be sharing this book, and I can’t wait for folks to have it in their hands!” Marie added.
Oni’s A Quick & Easy Guide series features educational comics on topics like They/Them Pronouns, Queer & Trans Identities, Consent, Sex & Disability, Asexuality, and more. Each one is designed to be approachable for a wide audience at any stage of learning about a given topic. Thus, they are short and often to the point, providing introductory-level info that can be absorbed and applied ASAP.
Rose’s book guides readers in how to recognize and reinforce positive patterns in familial, platonic, romantic, professional, and communal relationships with a focus on self-care. Tips include how to state and uphold healthy boundaries, strengthen bonds, and navigate hard conversations.
A Quick & Easy Guide to Healthy Relationships is available everywhere books are sold.
