Invader Comics has just announced a brand new 66-page horror-fantasy one-shot, Death’s Immortal Hunter. This one-shot will introduce the DIH universe.

Death’s Immortal Hunter launches today, May 1, 2025, on Kickstarter, timing the campaign to coincide with the pagan festival of May Day (or Beltane). The new comic comes from writer K.I. Miller (Recall, Unknown Caller) with art by the terrifying trio of Dean Kotz, Dave Mims and Camilo Ponce.

At the center of the story is the Hunter — a mysterious figure who, despite his noble intentions, has pierced the veil between life and death. This disruption has unleashed chaos, allowing both light and darkness to thrive without restraint. In response, Death — a literal entity — delivers an ultimatum: restore the balance, or face the Reaping, a cosmic reckoning that will reset existence itself.

This gripping 66-page one-shot is an ideal entry point for a character trapped in an endless struggle. Burdened with the relentless task of tracking down the demons he unleashed, the Hunter is condemned to a life of toil—never able to rest, never allowed a moment of reprieve, until his mission is complete. His errors have shifted the balance of existence, favoring life in a twisted and disheartening manner. Here, reality is grotesque, with individuals meandering through their lives severed from the constraints of mortality. This loss strips away the compassion, perspective, and fragility that imbue life with purpose. In this unsettling realm, eternity transforms into a profound curse.

“The series was born out of my love for Highlander, Hellblazer (John Constantine) and Mike Mignola’s Hellboy,” says Miller. “I’ve been circling this idea for years, and it’s gone through many evolutions. These three short stories are the result of a lot of trial and error — the first real breakthrough where I’ve found a tone and a world that feels just right. My hope is that they stand on their own as fun action-horror pieces while seeding a much larger story in the vein of Something Is Killing the Children and Hack/Slash — gritty, supernatural, and emotionally charged.”

Miller adds, “This series of shorts is my proving ground. A fertile landscape where I explore the character, mythos and themes that lay the foundation for the series. At its core, Death’s Immortal Hunter is about relationships — especially our relationship with death. I want to dig deep into the worldbuilding, the mythology, and the emotional weight of a flawed protagonist who fights demons — both figurative and literal — while questioning everything they’ve done to bring the world to this point.”
