A Malaysian Yu-Gi-Oh! card collector was devastated after cutting the top corner of his highly sought Grand Master Rare version of Dark Magician, the Pharaoh’s Servant. Snkrdunk values a PSA 10 at $31,318. There is already an eBay listing for the raw card for $15K.

The nightmarish incident of the damaged card went viral in a short video uploaded to Facebook by user Xuan Zii.
“What happened to him?” read the video’s caption as he paced, frustrated, back and forth between his kitchen and living room after using scissors to open the packaging.
These new cards come from the Yu-Gi-Oh! OCG Limit Over Collection, which is divided into two separate sets: Limit Over Collection Heroes (LOCH) and Limit Over Collection Rivals (LOCR). Currently, these sets are only available in the Japanese and Asian markets, and each set features 18 cards based on Protagonists and Rivals from the 6 NAS Anime series.

The standard versions of the card feature the classic card template, but what really has collectors interested are the extended art cards, available in Overframe or extended art as Ultra Rares and Prismatic Secret Rares, as well as a new Grand Master Rare printed with a unique serial number. The Grand Master Rare cards can be identified by a rainbow coating applied over the Attribute, Level/Rank, and text box border, a hieroglyph pattern on the card edge, and a serial number from 001 to 100 engraved in place of the card ID.

The new set includes multiple new cards inspired by the protagonist and antagonist from the anime, as well as cards from the show that are finally coming to the original card game. LOCH was released last February, and LOCR is set to be released in Japan on March 20.

It’s the nostalgia, the limited run of these rare Grand Master Rare cards, or maybe both that are driving card collectors into a frenzy, with another card in the Limit Over Collection: Heroes set, Grand Master Rare Dark Magical Curtain, recently sold for 3.33 mil yen (roughly $21,000 USD) on Mercari.
