Over the weekend March 31 to April 2, the winners of the 2023 Comic Barcelona Awards were declared at the festival's 41st annual gathering

Last autumn, London’s Barbican Theatre hosted a sell-out run of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s stage adaptation of Studio Ghibli classic My Neighbour Totoro; last weekend the production won six Olivier Awards. All shortly after announcing that it will return for a limited run in autumn 2023.

Every MoCCA, exhibitors have a chance to receive an Award of Excellence. Here is the list of recipients of the 2023 MoCCA Award of Excellence. 

Kate Beaton's widely acclaimed graphic memoir Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands emerged as the winner of radio competition Canada Reads 2023 today. 

Cartoonist R. Kikuo Johnson (No One Else) is part of the 2023 cohort to receive the Whiting Award, possibly the first cartoonist to do so.

Other recipients of Hay Medals this year include poet Mererid Hopwood, author Salman Rushdie, and writer/musician Serhiy Zhadan.

With this year's awards, the "Graphic Literature" category has been renamed “Graphic Novels and Comics” and split into two linguistic categories (English and Filipino).

The second edition of the Minicomic Awards celebrating the world – and community - of micro self-publishing, run by Sloane Leong and Leslie Hung. The 2023 guest judges were creative duo Yuko Ota and Ananth Hirsh (Lucky Penny, Pixels of You).

Comica, the Lakes International Comic Art Festival (LICAF), and VIP Brands have announced the Sophie Castille Award for comics in translation. Publisher submissions for translated works into English are now open with a deadline set for June 1, 2023, with the winner declared in October

A hotly contested Graphic Novel category isn't the only place to find comics related material in this year's LA Book Prize finalists – Alex Segura’s novel Secret Identity landed a spot in the Mystery/Thriller category.

The Angoulême Awards 2023 ceremony took place at last month's 50th anniversary edition of the festival.
