TO DO TONIGHT NYC: Comic News Insider's 400th Episode
The Beat will be making a special announcement on tonight's episode! What can it be?
Stumptown Party Poop
As we've been putting together the listings for this bi-coastal duel indie comics weekend extravaganza, it occurs to us that we are just not very plugged in to the Portland scene...well not the way we are NYC that's for sure. So we're doing our best to cover this, but maybe what we need is a PDX correspondent?
Anyhoo, Stumptown actually has a great events page with all the weekend goings on. So we'll put post the pictures and links here. Send us reports!
MoCCA Party Poop: From Europe to Brooklyn
So many events for MoCCA this year! Rev up your MetroCard and get up on it. With a little cabfare here and there you can hit three or four of these!
MoCCA programming note: Fanfare/Ponent Mon joins Indie publishing panel
Please note that our panel tomorrow at 1:15, "The State of Small Publishing", will now include Fanfare/Ponent Mon's Stephen Robson, in addition to Box Brown, Craig Yoe, and Secret Acres' Barry Matthews. These fine gentlemen all have a lot to say and I'm as eager to hear their discussion as anyone!
MoCCA Party Poop: Come to the Beat's Happy Hour on Sunday
Just a quick note. We'll have the full rundown of MoCCA related festivities in a bit, but we're having a Beat sponsored happy hour on Sunday after the show at the Mad Hatter Saloon, 360 Third Avenue (just off 26th St. and around the corner form the Lexington Armory) This will be an informal kick back and talk about awesome comics with a beer or a burger event. The patio will be open if it isn't too chilly. This is a photo from last year's MoCCA, but this year's will be equally fun, we're sure.
Event report: Comics Journalism at Union Docs
This week has been taken up with writing some longish piece on the controversies of the day, which, sadly take a long time, and in the scrum I didn't get a chance to write up Saturday's Comics Journalism event at Union Docs, so this rushed little blurb will have to do.
Comics stuff happening in NYC this week
Sorry to be so NY centric but a lot is going on this week here in conjunction with MoCCA. A quick run down:
To do Durham, NC: Joe Sacco: "Comics and Journalism" at Duke University
Duke University has a sizable interest in comics from its faculty and I believe they even have a comics collection in their library. Another educational resource people should be aware of.
To Do Tonight, Brooklyn: Leaping Tall Buildings
"Seth Kushner (The Brooklynites) has taken his skills as a photographer and his passion for comic books and turned them into two unique projects."
To do, NYC: KGB's Easter Comics Reading
Leela Corman, Jon Lewis, Ellen Lindner, and Sean Ford join host Robyn Chapman for this annual comics tradition.
MoCCA Fest 2012 announces guests: Russell, Panter
MoCCA Fest 2012 has finally announced its guests and begun rolling out other activities—and they have a brand new dedicated website, above, to do so.
P. Craig Russell is the guest of honor—which explains the exquisite rococo ad we've been running for the past month -- and Gary Panter will be presented with the Klein Award, MoCCA's lifetime achievement honor.
