Irene-watch: Stuck inside? Read some comics!
With some 65 million Americans stuck inside this weekend due to the potentially devastating hurricane, what are you supposed to do but read some comics! While paper-based products will be the most useful if the power goes out, if you want to burn a few pixels, there are tons of great comics online to keep you busy.
Webcomic Watch: Una the Blade
It hasn't really started yet, but Una the Blade is a new webcomic about a single mom barbarian fighter by Steve LeCouilliard, Xeric-winning cartoonist of Much the Miller's Son. Kinda looks like Lone Sonja and Cub from the development art -- promising!
Many more endings for Laika
This is so cool. Nick Abadzis writes to remind us that his strips for the 25th Anniversary of Big Planet Comics has ended: a series of gorgeous alternate endings to his GN LAIKA, about the dog who went into space ... and never came back.
Four strips are up here, with tributes to "Stan and Jack (Stan referring to both the Man and Kubrick), and several iterations of how the story could've turned out." The final episode definitely calls out for a sequel/spin-off.
Webcomic alert: Raised on Ritalin by Tyler Page
Tyler Page (Nothing Better, Stylish Vittles) has a new webcomic called Raised on Ritalin - A Medicated Memoir and just a few panels will give you an idea of what it's about.
Sin Titulo is back
Cameron Stewart's Eisner-winning webcomic Sin Titulo has been appearing sporadically due to his busy schedule, but a new page is up, and this time, he promises, he's going to be able to stick with it for a while.
SDCC11 A Look Back: James Kochalka
Okay we're not going to spend weeks and weeks rounding up San Diego memories, but we are going to share a few good ones. James Kochalka has started his sketchbook diaries account, and this is the comics equivalent of the MODERN FAMILY recap.
Go watch now: Derek Kirk Kim’s Mythomania
Ever wondered why there isn't a webseries that doesfor indie cartoonists with THE GUILD does for gamers? Well now there is!
A few days ago The Beat's Shannon O'Leary alerted you to the existence of Derek Kirk Kim's new webseries, MYTHOMANIA, and now having watched it ourselves, it is SUPER AMAZING. Two episodes (or 9) now out tell the story of Andy Go, an aspiring indie cartoonists who lives in LA, gets rejected by publishers, hangs out with his friends arguing about Alan Moore, and hankers after a cool girl nerd cartoonist. Written and directed by Kim, it's sharp, funny and looks great -- AND it has cameos by Scott McCloud and, in an upcoming episode, Jason Shiga! WATCH IT NOW then come back for the commentary.
Webcomic alert: Lady Sabre & The Pirates of the Ineffable Aether
Greg Rucka and Rick Burchett have launched their new steampunkish webcomic Lady Sabre & The Pirates of the Ineffable Aether. It's schedule to update Mondays and Thursdays. To celebrate they've made this poster available.
Webcomics redux
Speaking of things that K---B----- hath wrought, in the same post on Fleen that talks about Strong Females, Tyrrell also talks about the print/web divide:
Strong Females are taking over the internet
At the risk of invoking the name K---B----- again, it should be noted that the characters created by B------, Carly Monardo and Meredith Gran have taken on a like of their own, with a Fan Art tumblr, a Twitter hashtag and a motto:
"With Great Power Comes a Great Pair of Titties."
Gary Tyrrell at Fleen has the complete rundown on strong females stuff.

Webcomic alert: Darryl Cunningham on Evolution
Daryl Cunningham has finished another of his excellent comics debunking unscience, this time on Evolution. Previous comics have covered such topics as global warming and autism "research." A book collection of these comics will be out next year.
And there was great rejoicing!
