Sometimes, internal demons manifest as external villains, and then all hell breaks loose. In musician and artist Dave Chisholm‘s upcoming Scout Comics series, Canopus, protagonist Helen has to face amnesia, a burning urgency to get home, and things that go bump in the night. Today, The Beat can reveal an exclusive first look at Canopus #1 before the series debuts in February.
As you might imagine, this sci-fi thriller is deeply psychological. Chisholm employs his signature, inky brushwork and intricate panel layouts in a visually inventive way that encouragers a closer read and moves the story forward. Canopus features plenty of dangerous creatures, narrow escapes, and alien planet vistas.
Canopus #1 will be available at your local comic shop on February 12, 2020. Check out an exclusive, four-page preview below and visit scoutcomics.com for more information. You can also keep up with the publisher on Twitter @ScoutComics.

Helen wakes up marooned on a lifeless alien planet 300 light years from Earth with no memories beyond a hazy sense of extinction-level urgency to return to Earth. Joined by Arther, her strange robot companion, she explores the planet to find materials necessary to repair her ship until her most painful memories return as monstrous manifestations hell-bent on her destruction. As Helen fights her way back to base, the mysteries only deepen: who is she, really, and why can’t she remember the true objectives of her mission? CANOPUS tracks the demons of both inner and outer space in an intricately illustrated psychological sci-fi adventure!
