Colin Farrell will star in Ordained, a new film from John Wick writer Derek Kolstad and Avengers: Endgame producers Joe and Anthony Russo. According to The Hollywood Reporter, who broke the news, Kolstad will also get a producer credit, along with Bad Idea’s Dinesh Shamdasani and Benjamin Simpson.
Other producers include AGBO’s Angela Russo-Otstot and Michael Disco, and Colin and Claudine Farrell via their Chapel Place production shingle.
Robert Venditti wrote Ordained, which will debut in comic shops on December 10 with art by Trevor Hairsine and colorist Dave Stewart. Bad Idea is a star-studded comics publisher who initially launched with an express business model of scarcity, released only in around 150 stores. They have since become at least somewhat easier to get your hands on, but the sales numbers aren’t hitting Batman or even Youngblood levels.
Venditti is no stranger to Hollywood, with his creator-owned series The Surrogates having been adapted into a 2009 film starring Bruce Willis. He has worked with Shamdasani before during the latter’s time in charge of Valiant Entertainment, during which time Venditti wrote X-O Manowar, putting together a run that lasted about twice as long as any other post-’90s Valiant title. After that, he worked at DC on titles like The Flash and Green Lantern.
Farrell is fresh off his Emmy nomination for The Penguin, an HBO Max series that spun out of Matt Reeves‘s The Batman. The star has expressed skepticism about slipping back into the makeup to take on the role again, but hasn’t ruled it out yet. He’s got season two of his Apple TV series Sugar coming up soon.
The Russos, meanwhile, were lured back to Marvel along with Robert Downey, Jr. and are currently in post-production on next year’s Avengers: Doomsday. In addition to their Marvel Studios work, the Russo Brothers executive produced Syfy’s acclaimed TV adaptation of Rick Remender and Wes Craig‘s Deadly Class.
Here’s the film’s synopsis, as delivered by THR: “Farrell will star as Father Roy Craig, a priest who performs last rites on a mob boss who miraculously survives — but not before confessing his crimes to the father. Soon after, Father Roy finds himself targeted by hitmen, corrupt cops and gangsters — all sent by the mob boss who wants to silence him. But Father Roy secretly has a violent past that makes him a more dangerous target than anyone imagines. (Luckily for his adversaries, he does follow the commandant Thou Shall Not Kill.)“
