The third Avengers: Doomsday teaser trailer, which was attached to Avatar: Fire and Ash during its third week in theaters, has now been officially released online:
Narrated by Ian McKellen, the trailer sees Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto reunite with his old friend Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) in the halls of the X-Mansion, which appears to have come under attack from Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.). The notion of one last swan song for the original cinematic X-Men is heavily implied, with Magneto declaring that one’s death (which, lest we forget, is the literal meaning of Doom) is not about whether you’re prepared to die, but how you act in the face of that inevitability — and was in the case in 2014’s Days of Future Past, it seems Magneto is ready to face it because he’s reconciled with Professor X.
It concludes with James Marsden‘s Cyclops, now sporting a costume based on Jim Lee‘s ’90s design, taking off his visor in anguish, and unleashing a full optic blast. The three are the only individuals seen in the trailer, with any reveal of Hugh Jackman‘s return as Wolverine being conspicuously absent. Other X-Men characters confirmed for the film include Kelsey Grammer‘s Beast, Alan Cumming‘s Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn‘s Mystique, and Channing Tatum as Gambit.
Avengers: Doomsday, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, will be released in theaters on December 18. As well as the original movie X-Men, it will see the return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America, Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres/Falcon, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Letitia Wright as Shuri/Black Panther, Tenoch Huerta Mejia as Namor, and the lead cast of Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
It will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars, due out December 17, 2027, and be preceded by Spider-Man: Brand New Day (which doesn’t have a trailer yet) on July 31, 2026. In the meantime, the MCU will continue on Disney+ with Wonder Man (releasing in its entirety on January 27), Daredevil: Born Again season two in March, a Punisher special, and VisionQuest later this year. Stay tuned until then, for when Marvel releases the last of the four reported trailers, that’ll be attached to Fire and Ash this Friday, and follow online next week.
