Avengers Campus, the highly anticipated Marvel-themed area in California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort, will be officially open to the public on July 18th, 2020. The Beat was on the scene this past Sunday, and can provide this Daily Bugle-worthy picture showing the rapid progress being made on the newest addition to the wider Marvel universe:

Like Galaxy’s Edge did for Star Wars, the addition of Avengers Campus to the Anaheim, California theme park will give guests the opportunity to fully step into the Marvel Universe (and buy plenty of neat souvenirs, snacks, and even alcoholic beverages while they’re visiting their favorite superheroes).

In addition to the already open “Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission BREAKOUT!” ride, Avengers Campus will feature the brand-new “WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure” attraction. The area will also feature two shops dedicated to exclusive Marvel merchandise, as well as several tantalizing food service locations. You want schwarma? They’ve got schwarma!

Web Slingers takes place at a former Stark Automotives site that has been updated by the Worldwide Engineering Brigade (WEB), whose members include the likes of Doreen Green and Lunella Lafayette (that’s right, Squirrel Girl and Moon Girl). During a demonstration of the new Spider-Bot, something goes wrong – and the bots go into an infinite self-replicating loop.

Guests will then don 3D glasses and board the Web Slinger vehicle in order to help Spidey eradicate the cavalcade of Spider-Bots that now infest the Campus. Depending on their location, the Spider-Bots will be worth different amounts of points, allowing guests to thwip for the highest possible score.

While the setup sounds similar to certain existing rides (like “Toy Story Midway Mania”), the attraction adds an interesting new method of detecting movement. Instead of pointing a “controller” at the Spider-Bots, guests will simply mimic Spidey’s distinctive web-slinging gesture in order to “shoot webs” at their targets. Best of all, since the attraction doesn’t have a height requirement, every aspiring superhero in your party will be able to take part in the Spidey-themed adventure.

And never fear: a remote-controlled version of the Spider-Bots will be available for purchase across the way from the Web Slinger’s attraction, complete with character-themed customization options. That way, if the little bugger goes into a self-replication loop when you get home, at least they’ll all be Black Panther-themed!

Big foods, small foods, some as big as your head

The main food service location at the Avengers Campus will be the Pym Test Kitchen, where the menu items have undergone all manner of size-alteration thanks to the titular Pym Particles. From the “Not So Little Chicken Sandwich” to the “PYM-ini,” there are options for appetites of all sizes at the dining location.

Next door to the Pym Test Kitchen is the Pym Tasting Lab, where a “reverse draft system” fills glasses with craft beer “from the bottom up.” There will also be a selection of mixed drinks, bite-sized “Snack Molecules,” and the option to get your beverage served in a Pym Technologies beaker.

In addition to the Pym-themed foodstuffs, there will also be the aforementioned shawarma cart, and a pastry shop opening near the Guardians of the Galaxy attraction will offer some out-of-this-world variations on Disneyland’s omnipresent churro. If the food and drink selections at Galaxy’s Edge are any indication, you’ll want to bring a Hulk-sized appetite when you visit the Avengers Campus.
