To mark the release of the Magic: The Gathering – Marvel Super Heroes set on June 26, Marvel Comics has announced Avengers: Armageddon #1 will be released with an exclusive “Warstorm Surge” card, featuring the art Ryan Stegman created for the book’s Comics Giveaway Day prelude, Armageddon/X-Men #1. This means every copy of the book’s first printing, including those with variant covers, will be sold in a special polybag.

Avengers: Armageddon #1 Magic: The Gathering card

Written by Chip Zdarsky with art by Delio Diaz and Frank Alpizar, Avengers: Armageddon will see Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the Fantastic Four, Wolverine, and more, clash with Thaddeus Ross/Red Hulk when the general claims control of Latveria in Doctor Doom’s absence. The event will begin before the release of the Magic: The Gathering set on June 10, while the Comics Giveaway Day prelude will be available on Saturday, May 2. Dike Ruan will provide the first issue’s main cover art, while Stegman’s will also be available as a variant cover.

Additionally, Marvel will celebrate the Magic: The Gathering collaboration with a line of company-wide variant covers in June, which’ll be revealed at a later date. In the meantime, Armageddon is being set up in the pages of Zdarsky et al.’s Captain America run and Wolverine: Weapons of Destruction, the respective eighth and second issues of which are available now. The first issue of Dark Horse’s second Magic: The Gathering series, Untold Stories — Jace, is also out now.
