Beloved children’s series Arthur is becoming a pair of graphic novels next year, adapted by Harvey Award-winning cartoonist Jarrett J. Krosoczka (Hey Kiddo) from the original books by author and illustrator Marc Brown. Both installments, Arthur Makes a Comic, and Arthur’s Underwear, will be released by Little, Brown Ink on May 4, 2027.

In a statement provided to People magazine, Brown, 79, comments, “Some exciting new media adventures [are] on the way for Arthur and graphic novels is one of them. What fun it is to work with Jarrett on these. Oddly, I proposed Arthur graphic novels when the show launched [in 1996]. I guess it’s true: good things are worth the wait!”

The books were initially announced earlier this year, with Krosoczka, 48, explaining he has been a fan of Brown since reading the Arthur books to his cousins, and wrote a fan letter to him in 1997, when he was 19. The two met in 2004, with Brown taking Krosoczka under his wing as a friend and protege. Krosoczka said he was “super proud” to bring Arthur to comics, and that he had been working directly with Brown to “expand the [original] stories”.

Arthur revolves around Arthur Read, an elementary school student and aardvark in a world of anthropomorphic animals. It originally debuted in 1976, before becoming the Daytime Emmy Award-winning cartoon that aired on PBS Kids from 1996 to 2022. Arthur Makes a Comic, presumably based on 1998’s Arthur Writes a Book, will follow the kid while he creates a comic about his puppy Pal for class, while Arthur’s Underwear, based on the 2001 release of the same name, will see him struggle with nightmares about being embarrassed at school.

Both books are available to pre-order now, and will retail at 96 pages each for $7.99 in paperback, and $15.99 in hardcover. In the meantime, you can check out the cover for Arthur’s Underwear below:
