John K. recalls a ’90s classic: Stimpy’s Invention:

Stimpy’s Invention was 2 months late because of Nick delays and because they hated it and sat on it.

The next year, they told us to make more cartoons like Stimpy’s Invention and Space Madness.

WARNING: I’ve gotten reports that clocking on the link activates a Trojan Horse so proceed at your own risk.

  1. The first 2 seasons of Ren and Stimpy are class-sick. After Kricfalusi *left*, the soul of the show slowly leaked away.

  2. I still can’t believe “Ren and Stimpy” made it onto the Nickelodeon airwaves back in the early 90’s. At the time, I savored each and every episode, knowing full well it was only a matter of time before the myopic Nick execs would yank it or, worse yet, water it down.

This snarky, subversive show was a UNIVERSE removed from “Doug” and “Rugrats”, the other two “Nicktoons” that made their debut in August of 1991…and I recorded every one of ’em…at least until John K. flew the coop.

I’m too lazy to look…has “Ren and Stimpy” been collected to DVD yet?

  3. Mark –

There are three collections available – plus a two disc collection of “uncensored” episodes that John K made especially for Spike TV. They’re available through Paramount DVD.

  4. “Stimpy’s Invention” and “Space Madness” are my favorite episodes of Ren and Stimpy! Oh, Nickelodeon, you don’t know what’s good. There’s a brief part of “Stimpy’s Invention” where Ren tries on Stimpy’s stay-up socks, which are filled with concrete, that makes me laugh just thinking about it.

  5. Ah… “The shiny candy-colored button”…

And then there’s the Dr. Stupid question about that weird white thing in a can of pork and beans… And I always think of “Don’t Pee On The Electric Fence” when I look at the third rail in the subway…
