Long running Dan Abnett-written 2000 AD series Sinister Dexter is to receive its first new collection since 2009 with Sinister Dexter: Bulletopia. Releasing March 11, 2026, the book will collect the entire Bulletopia arc that seemingly ended the series before Abnett and Tazio Bettin launched popular sideways cyberpunk spinoff Azimuth in 2023. Presumably the publication of Bulletopia is to pave the way for an Azimuth collection in the not too distant future.

The synopsis,

“NEW WORLD DISORDER!

“In the rotting corpse of a city called Downlode, only the most ruthless people can survive. Finnigan Sinister and Ramone Dexter have made their mark working together as ‘gun-sharks’ (hitmen) for some of the underworld’s biggest mob bosses.

“Having killed Holy Moses Tanenbaum, a mobster from an alternate dimension whose presence threatened the fabric of reality, Finnigan Sinister and Ramone Dexter have reset the continuum, and now no one knows who they are, except for the hacker, Billi Octavo. Hired to protect a sentient A.I. called Lillith, the duo has discovered that another rogue A.I. is at large in the city…”

While we can’t say for sure what material will be included in the collection, the main Bulletopia arc ran intermittently in 2000 AD between 2020 and 2022, with various elements and characters making appearances in the Prog as far back as 2016. There may well be some pieces in between left out to make the 192-page count.

Created in 1995 by Dan Abnett and David Millgate, the 2000 AD crime series about two hitmen (“gun sharks”) in a futuristic European city called Downlode is loosely inspired by Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta’s characters in 1994 Quentin Tarantino movie Pulp Fiction. Published in short, sporadic bursts over the years, the series’ mix of wry comedy, scifi, crime and action – plus its own (somewhat convoluted) continuity – has drawn a cult following.

While launched and co-created with artist David Millgate, Sinister Dexter has had a pretty impressive roster of artists including Greg Staples, Frazer Irving, Henry Flint, Clint Langley, Simon Davis, Sean Phillips, Andy Clarke (we could go on). Bulletopia will feature the work of Steve Yeowell and Tazio Bettin, with a cover by Luke Preece.

Following its acquisition of 2000 AD, from 2004 Rebellion had published four collections of the early arcs of the series before discontinuing the initiative in 2009. All are now out of print. The recently completed 200-volume Hachette partworks series 2000 AD Ultimate Collection compiled much of series to date across seven volumes between 2018 and 2023 but those are also hard to come by.
