Gandalf and Picard team up to wait for Godot

make it so

Or, if you prefer, Magneto and Professor X do Beckett.

According to a story on the BBC website, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart will be doing WAITING FOR GODOT next year.

McKellan will play Estragon and Stewart will play Vladimir.

Stewart is currently playing Claudius in the RSC production of Hamlet starring soon-to-be-ex Doctor # 10, David Tennant.

No word if Hugh Jackman might play Pozzo or Lucky.

  1. “Pickard,” you say? Too bad it wasn’t “Ebbykneezer Skruge.”

  2. Estrogen?

  3. Torsten Adair says:

I’m waiting for the sequel, “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Waiting for Godot”. All four meet at the crossroads, and spend the next two hours misunderstanding each other.

  4. Torsten Adair says:

Shouldn’t the headline read: Waiting For Frodo ?
Compare Dorothy’s journey in Baum’s “The Wizard Of Oz” with Frodo’s quest in Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings” trilogy.

  5. Will their hats be Photoshopped on during the play, too? That would be cool.

  6. Those hats were borrowed from Warren Ellis, by the way. He has a HUGE collection.

  7. Michael says:

    Guest starring Scott Bakula.

  8. With Christopher Lee as Pozzo and Ewan McGregor as Lucky—

Gandalf/Magneto AND Picard/Prof. X AND Saruman/Dooku/Dracula/that Wicker Man guy AND Obi-Wan Jr?? NERDGASM.

And, it’ll teach us nerd/geeks some Kulture. ;)

  9. The Beat says:

We really need Christian Bale in there somewhere to make it complete.

  10. “And, it’ll teach us nerd/geeks some Kulture.”

I’m convinced that Patrick Stewart did that TV version of Moby Dick in order to show Trekkies where all of Montalban’s scenery-chewing lines in Wrath of Khan came from.

  11. Didn’t Stewart play Claudius in the 80s BBC version of Hamlet?

  12. timothycat says:

Might actually fly to England to see this. Great play with two amazing actors. Doesn’t get any better.

  13. Bob Kahan says:

I can’t wait to see all the new comics & storylines that’ll come to us based on Beckett’s work.

I can’t go on. I must go on.

  14. AAAAH! I love Beckett! I love Waiting for Godot! I love these actors! WHY am I not in England now, why, why, whyeee?!!

  15. I like their hats.
