After months of teases and an ARG website rollout, this week Lion Forge is announcing details of Catalyst Prime, its new superhero universe, which is being spearheaded by editor Joe Illidge and rolling out with a FCBD intro and a May debut. With A-list talent – Amy Chu, David F. Walker, Dr. Sheena Howard, Alex De Campi, Joe Casey and Christopher Priest – it’s one of the most ambitious superhero universe roll outs in quite some time.

And The Beat is pleased to exclusively announce Superb, a new title to be written by David F. Walker and Sheena C Howard, with art by Ray-Anthony Height, Le Beau Underwood and Veronica Gandini.

Catalyst Prime is set in a world where a near miss with an asteroid results in a meteor shower – which gives various people strange new powers. Superb sounds like the “Teen Team” book of this universe,  focusing on two characters, Kayla Tate  and Jonah Watkins, who has Downs Syndrome, now transformed into Amina and Cosmosis. As heroes, they’re trying to stop the sinister experiments of The Foresight Corporation, which is investigating others who gained powers.

Walker is the acclaimed writer of books such as Shaft, Power Man and Iron Fist,  and Nighthawk, while Howard is the Eisner winning author of Black Comics: Politics of Race and Representation. Height has worked at Marvel in titles including Fear Itself: Fearsome Foursome and Spider-Girl and created Midnight Tiger, a series he kickstarted.
